WTM 2005
14-November-2005Excel Centre, London
Thank you!
During World Travel Market the travel industry proved once again that it has a heart. The Taxi Promotions stand in the main glass atrium at ExCel was besieged by visitors wanting to make a donation to Just a Drop and sign the bonnet of their special branded taxi.
Just a Drop is the water-aid industry started by Fiona Jeffery and the organisers of World Travel Market eight years ago. Founded in 1997, it is the only global travel and tourism industry charity giving thousands of children and their families everywhere the right to life by providing clean water. The charity raises money to build wells, hand pumps and health and sanitation programmes. Asher Moses, Managing Director of Taxi Promotions UK admitted that he was a little embarrassed by the overwhelming interest in the taxi he had donated to the charity. Fiona Jeffries [Reed Travel Exhibitions Group Director] told me that there were almost 49,000 people at the show. Judging by the state of the taxi afterwards I think every single one of them must have signed it. The bonnet was full after day one and by the end of the show even the number plates had been autographed! Asher also raffled a £10,000 taxi advertising campaign to raise even more much needed money for Just a Drop. Lufthansa won that, and generously donated their prize to their own nominated charity Cancer Research UK.
2005 was a great year for Taxi Promotions UK, with more travel brands running campaigns than ever before. Many Taxi Promotions UK clients exhibited at World Travel Market and an impressive display of their branded taxis were on display.
Practical considerations meant there was only room for one actual taxi on our stand, but 65 taxi advertising campaigns were represented there by our highly popular miniature taxi models. Just like their big brothers, the miniatures were fully liveried and made for a very colorful display.
It was great to see so many friends and clients at WTM. They all came and admired their miniatures. Jamie Macdonald from Tourism Queensland and Chris Lee form Travelmood were delighted to see all the different taxis that make up their current joint campaign on display, and the Philippines Minister for Tourism was very proud of his taxi model. In fact, we had a huge fleet of real taxis “ including WOW Philippines “ ferrying show visitors to various events and hotels during the show too.
Ilanit Orly, Taxi Promotions UK is confident that 2006 will be another great year, and already has her sights on a new record. We've run campaigns for tour operators, destinations, airlines, hotels and travel insurance companies. The only continent we haven't worked with so far is Africa, but hopefully that challenge will be met before WTM 2006 opens.
Visitors to this year's World Travel Market (WTM) had the chance to win £10,000 worth of taxi advertising while supporting the event's signature charity, Just a Drop.
